Orange (Tang) Creamsicle
Tang, the beverage crystal, as a baking ingredient? Yes, the flavour is undeniable, as well as the colour! Takes me back to my childhood. These cookies are tangy (how else to describe it?) and chewy. Make some.
- 2 sticks unsalted butter, room temperature
- 1 2/3 cup granulated sugar
- 1 large egg
- 2 1/2 cup flour
- 1/2 tsp baking powder
- 1/4 tsp baking soda
- 1/2 tsp salt
- 2 tbsp skim milk powder
- 1 package (80 g) Tang orange beverage crystals
- 1 teaspoon orange extract
- 1/2 tsp orange gel
- In your mixer (with paddle attachment), combine the butter and sugar, on low speed, until smooth (approximately 2 minutes).
- Add egg to the mixture. Mix thoroughly.
- In a separate bowl, mix all the dry ingredients, up to the Tang crystals.
- Gradually, mix these dry ingredients with the creamed mixture, with the mixer on low speed.
- Divide the dough into two equal pieces. Keep one half in the mixer and put the other half out on a board.
- With the remaining half of the dough, add the Tang crystals, orange extract and orange gel and mix well.
- With the orange and cream doughs, break them into random sized pieces. Combine all the pieces so that you get a mix or marbleized effect.
- Follow instructions for My Perfect Cookie. Feed a small amount of orange/cream doughs into the shaper tube at a time, before tamping with the stick. Put the formed logs in the storage tubes in the fridge to chill.
- After the logs have chilled ifor a minimum of 3 hours, take them out of the tubes.
- Slice the log into 1/4" thick cookies.
- Place the cookies on parchment or silpat lined baking sheet. These cookies spread slightly so leave 1" between cookies.
- Bake in a 350 degree Fahrenheit oven for 12 minutes.
- Take the cookies out of the oven and sprinkle with orange or orange and white sanding sugar and decorate with candy accessories while the cookies are hot.
- Let cookies cool on baking sheet for a few minutes and then transfer to wire racks.
